Left Coast Pirates - Florida's West Coast Pirate Legends
There are a lot of REAL pirate stories and there are some that are not so real. I will try to focus on those that are actually real and have historical documentation. But I will give nod to Jose' Gaspar who is probably one of the most famous FAKE pirates there is and one that drives a lot of pirate excitement every year in Tampa Bay.
But the REAL Pirates are the ones that do not have such a romantic tale, and controlled much of the Gulf of Mexico. I will try to cover Jean Lafitte, Henry Ross & Henry Castor, and some other little known pirates Louis dAury & Ben Margoza. Also there are a few that you can actually visit, which are said to be cuban pirates who died in the Tampa Area and have graves you can see.
Jose “El Indio” Perfino, who was hanged near Tampa, and Captain Hubbard whose body was found in the woods.
As I find more I will list their names here.
